Reese’s Espresso Martini

What This Reese’s Espresso Martini Is

This Reese’s Espresso Martini is a peanut butter–chocolate espresso cocktail built to drink like a real espresso martini, not a novelty dessert drink. The point is simple: take the flavor profile everybody knows—chocolate and peanut butter—and lock it into a clean, repeatable cocktail that still has structure, bite, and balance. Espresso stays in control, the sweetness stays measured, and the peanut butter flavor hits without turning the drink thick or greasy.

A lot of “candy-inspired” drinks fall apart because they chase sweetness and forget the base. This one does the opposite. It starts with the espresso martini blueprint—spirits + coffee + sweetness + a shake that creates foam—and then it layers the Reese’s profile on top using peanut butter whiskey and chocolate coffee liqueur. Brown sugar syrup adds warmth instead of plain sugar sweetness, and a small amount of creamer rounds the finish so the drink comes across smooth and cohesive.

It’s also a drink that looks sharp. The peanut rim adds texture and a clear visual cue, the foam reads well on camera, and the garnish makes it obvious what you’re about to drink without overcomplicating it.

How the Flavor Comes Together

The first hit is aroma: espresso and chocolate lead. Then the sip opens up into peanut butter richness and finishes with coffee bitterness and a warm sweetness from brown sugar. The reason it works is that nothing is trying to be the main character for too long. Espresso gives structure, chocolate supports the coffee instead of covering it, and the peanut butter whiskey gives you the candy association without requiring actual peanut butter in the drink itself.

The creamer is there to round edges—especially with chocolate and peanut butter in the mix, it prevents the drink from tasting sharp or hollow. But it’s not meant to turn this into a creamy cocktail. It’s a small measurement that tightens the texture and softens the finish so the drink feels polished.

If you want it even bolder, pull your espresso fresh and use it right away. Fresh espresso gives the best foam and the cleanest coffee aroma. If you want it slightly smoother, chill the espresso first so the shake stays colder and the foam tightens up.

Ingredient Breakdown

Vanilla Vodka (1 oz)
This is the clean base that keeps the drink smooth. Vanilla plays naturally with chocolate and peanut butter, but it stays subtle—it’s there to support and soften.

Peanut Butter Whiskey (1 oz)
This is where the Reese’s identity really comes from. It delivers peanut flavor without any of the texture problems you get when people try to shake peanut butter into a cocktail.

Chocolate Coffee Liqueur (1 oz)
Chocolate liqueur alone can taste flat. Chocolate coffee liqueur keeps the espresso profile alive while adding the cocoa note you need for the Reese’s vibe. It builds depth instead of just sweetness.

Fresh Espresso (1 oz)
Espresso gives bitterness, aroma, and structure. One ounce is enough to keep this firmly in espresso martini territory while letting the peanut butter and chocolate show up.

Brown Sugar Syrup (½ oz)
Brown sugar syrup adds warmth and a slight molasses edge that works better with peanut butter than standard simple syrup. It tastes richer without pushing the drink into a sugar overload.

Creamer (½ oz)
This rounds the finish and smooths the drink out. You can use dairy creamer or a dairy-free option. Oat-based creamers work especially well here because they’re smooth and don’t fight the espresso.

The Peanut Butter Rim

The rim is a big part of the experience. You smell it, you taste it on the first sip, and it gives you texture that makes the cocktail feel “finished.” Microwaving the peanut butter for a quick 15 seconds loosens it so it spreads cleanly. Mixing in a small amount of syrup helps it stay smooth and workable so you don’t end up with a thick paste that tears up the rim or slides off.

For the coating, honey roasted peanuts are a solid choice because they add crunch and a little sweetness. But you’re not locked into that. You can swap based on your vibe:

  • Regular roasted peanuts for a cleaner peanut finish
  • Unsalted peanuts if you want the drink to stay smoother and less punchy
  • Salted peanuts if you want more contrast against the chocolate
  • Skip the nuts and do a straight peanut butter rim for a cleaner look
  • Mix the crushed peanuts with a pinch of cocoa powder if you want a darker, more chocolate-forward rim

The goal is a thin, controlled rim—not a thick layer that falls into the drink.

Glassware & Presentation Notes

A chilled martini glass is the right call here. The wide rim is made for the peanut butter coating, and the shape shows off the foam. After you rim the glass, chilling it for 5–10 minutes helps the rim set so it doesn’t slide when you pour.

This drink also looks better when you double strain. You get a cleaner foam cap and you avoid random ice shards or peanut bits sneaking in.

What the Three Espresso Beans Mean

The three espresso beans are a classic garnish with a meaning behind it: health, wealth, and happiness. It’s tradition, but it’s also practical. Beans add aroma right at the surface of the foam, so when you bring the glass up, you smell espresso immediately. That makes the drink feel like an espresso martini before you even take a sip.

It’s simple, it’s intentional, and it fits the style of this cocktail.

Why You’ll Love This Reese’s Espresso Martini

You’ll love this Reese’s Espresso Martini because it delivers the chocolate-peanut butter profile without turning into a sugar bomb or a thick, messy drink. It’s smooth, bold, and balanced, with espresso holding the structure and the peanut butter whiskey doing its job cleanly. The brown sugar syrup adds warmth, the creamer tightens the finish, and the rim gives you texture and flavor on the first sip. It looks sharp, it’s easy to repeat, and it’s the kind of cocktail people remember after the first round.
